The MASKerade Design and Decorating Contest

In the spirit of DCT's Color the world with Kindness theme, we are hoping to inspire the creativity and thoughtfulness that lies within all children everywhere. DCT invited all youth from kindergarten through grade 12 to participate in a mask design contest with Emmy-nominated Costume Designer Lyle Huchton with a little assistance from Milo the Mouse.

Top 3

Brenna - Age 14

What I want to be when I grow up: A Broadway Actor.

Why I wanted to enter the contest:
When I heard that DCT was doing a mask making competition, I jumped at the chance to make a mask dedicated to my favorite musical, Falsettos. Falsettos is very near and dear to my heart for many reasons. A couple of months ago, I was feeling very down on myself and was going through numerous anxiety attacks a day about different things that had been happening in my life. Then, one day, I decided to watch Falsettos for the first time. I had been meaning to watch it for some time, so that was as good a time as any. After watching just the first number and seeing amazing actors like Andrew Rannells and Christian Borle just doing what they're best at, my whole persona changed. I was laughing, and for the first time in months, I wasn't thinking about real life. I continued to watch the show every night before going to bed, much to my mother's dismay. After a while, I realized that I hadn't had an anxiety attack in days. So, as soon as I heard I had the chance to share the joy that it brought me, I knew I had to do it!
