Dramashops

Want to add a dramashop to your field trip? Reply Yes to the Dramashop question on the Field Trip Booking Request you submit. The workshop fee will be added to your invoice.

Along with viewing a show at DCT, a professional theater artist conducts a workshop for your class using hands-on activities to emphasize important themes and concepts from the play. For students Grade 1 and older.

Quick Facts

  • Dallas Children's Theater shows typically run 1-1/2 hours. Immediately following a morning performance, your class will be directed to an eating area for a 30-minute lunch break. Students bring a sack lunch and drink.
  • The Dramashop will last one hour (for example: if a show runs from 10:00 - 11:30 AM the Dramashop will begin at approximately 12:00 noon and last until 1:00 PM).
  • If your class is attending an afternoon performance, the Dramashop will be conducted prior to the performance.
  • Up to 20 students per Dramashop (approximately one regular class size). This allows for adequate participation for each student. One classroom teacher must remain with each Dramashop class for the lunch and workshop.
  • $100.00 for each Dramashop workshop for a one-hour session per classroom (up to 20 students) Grade 1 and up.

After School Drama Class

After the bell rings, a Dallas Children's Theater professional leads a class designed to encourage creative expression and self-discovery in a supportive and non-judgmental way. Students participate in exercises exploring movement, rhythm, dance, improvisation, speech and other elements of theater. Then students move on to the study of character and plot and, guided by their instructor, they collaborate on a script for their very own show to be polished and prepared for performance for family, friends and teachers.

Classes take place at your school. School-funded and tuition-based programs are available. Use your ArtsPartners, 21st Century, or After School funding to start a Dallas Children’s Theater After School Drama class.

Teacher Workshops

Dallas Children’s Theater conducts workshops for classroom teachers and specialists. In fun and highly participatory workshops, one of our professional artists will demonstrate how the elements of drama, theater, and improvisation can be used to enhance classroom learning. These programs can be offered after school or during a Teacher In-Service day. Let our highly experienced artists share their many talents and experiences with your teachers!

If you are considering a Workshop, we encourage you to book in advance, as workshops are booked on a first-come first-served basis.

Residencies

Engage students on an exciting new level! When you bring Dallas Children’s Theater artists into your classroom, you will build interest and excitement for your students. Using our successful multisensory approach to learning, our arts will work with students to bring classroom curriculum to life.

A Dallas Children’s Theater artist will present our drama residency, Curtains Up on Reading, to your students using literature and stories to complement the themes chosen for the residency.
