Help a Legend Come to Life
The LEGEND OF THE BLUEBONNET is being transformed into a play inspired by ancient knowledge regarding the appearance of the blue flower that covers the hills of Texas every spring. The story, read at school, ultimately inspires a young girl of Indigenous heritage to go beyond the legend to explore her history, opening doors to the customs of Coahuiltecan ancestors she never knew existed.
Thanks to guidance from leaders of the Indigenous Culture Institute during last season's Play in Progress program, a distinct direction for telling this Texas story has emerged. Now, in collaboration
with Cara Mia Theatre... we take the next steps! Join this interactive workshop and help create a living, breathing play about then and now with music and dancing.
The creative team... playwright Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, Danzante Capitan Evelio Flores, dramaturg David Lozano of Cara Mia Theatre and DCT's Executive Artistic Director Robyn Flatt will be your guides for the day.
Participate in specialized workshops in dance and storytelling.
